How do holes get into your shirt? How can you prevent them?
To know how to prevent holes in your shirt, we must first know how the holes get in your shirt, Holes are not a sign of age.
First, a fact: According to the Technical and Scientific Center for the Belgian Textile Industry), there is no indication that the quality of cotton is deteriorating. The fact that holes sometimes appear in the fabric has always been there. Most often, these are holes at the bottom of your T-shirt near your belly. This is due to nothing less than an abrasive belt, your car belt, the kitchen sink, your desk or simply the button or edge of your jeans themselves. Holes at the bottom of your shirt then occur quickly, because they are often made from a thin single jersey fabric, or the fabric is woven from one thread.
Research revealed that the holes are caused by a combination of friction and the technique by which a T-shirt is made. T-shirts are often knitted with only one thread. When friction or damage occurs, it immediately causes a hole because that one thread is damaged. Garments that are knitted with 2 or more threads are less likely to show holes. When they are damaged, it does not mean that immediately all the threads break, so a hole is not immediately seen. But this technique is chosen less frequently because it is not as easy and more expensive.
Cotton is and remains a natural product. This means that the quality is partly dependent on external factors such as the weather. Each cotton plant is also different and this also affects the quality. It is also not because you buy cheap cotton that you are sure to get holes and vice versa. But the chance of better quality is greater if you are willing to pay a little more.
We first want to know what purposes these shirts are going to be used for. Is it for an event for which they are only going to be used once? Then we recommend the Kariban ecological t-shirts for events. For workwear, we would like to have some more info first, like for example what conditions the workers are in (hot places, outside...), will the garments stay the same for now? If so, we need to see that these are items that will stay in the collection for a long time. Stanley/Stella has nice collections with beautiful colors but also goes with the seasons. If there is a color that is trendy now, it will not be carried next year.
